Willes "Will" Cooper is a younger brother of Rebakah Cooper. He was born in 234 HE. His mother was Ilony Cooper, who died in 244 HE. Nothing is known of his father, although it seems as though he had a different father than his oldest sister Beka[1]. His older sisters are Rebakah, Diona and Lorine Cooper. Will's younger brother is Nilo Cooper.

Biography

Willes spent the first four years of his live living on Mutt Piddle Lane in the Cesspool, the poorest part of Corus. He already liked to look at horses when he lived in the Cesspool and chased after them when Beka didn't look after him properly[2].

In 238 HE, Lord Gershom took them in and now provides for the boys. Once he was old enough to ride he was constantly to be seen around the stables.[3] Will is a good rider and training to be a royal messenger. At doing this he has already met King Roger and his Queen Jessamine at the age of twelve[4]. The horse he was riding on this occassion was called Ladslove.[4]

In 249, HE Lord Gershom procures the post of courier for the Lord High Magistrate, after Beka succeeds in finding and saving the kidnapped Prince Gareth.[5]

Physical description

Will takes after his father in looks, having his green eyes and being obviously quite handsome.[6]

Appearances

He appears both in Terrier and in Bloodhound as a minor character. In Terrier he features in one of Beka's visits to Provost's House, while he only appears in the end of Bloodhound. In Mastiff, Willes is mentioned by Beka but doesn't make an appearance.

Trivia

It might be possible that Tamora Pierce made a mistake in Mastiff. There she describes Nilo as being the palace rider. But in Terrier, Nilo was the stablelad and Willes the courier. Curiously their situation seems to have reversed in the last book.
