Vrinday Kayu is a mage hired by Crookshank to kill his diggers—she puts poison in their soup[1]— and spell the guards so they won't talk. She was born around 206 HE and is probably of Copper Isles descent, as her name comes from the isles[2]. Not much of her life is known. In the service of Crookshank she also disguises of a maid to keep an eye on his granddaughter-in-law, Tansy Lofts, when she leaves the house. She is arrested on May 10, 246 HE and commits suicide in the prison[3].
Physical description
Vrinday has black, greying hair which she wears in a braid. Her eyes are black and also lined in black paint[4], her nose short and her mouth wide with frown lines that draw the corners down. In the place of her real eyebrows she has drawn black arches to resemble them. She has three teardrop tatoos, which are normally worn in Carthak[2], two at the corners of her eyes and one on her chin. She seems to be quite muscular.[5]
She wears expensive clothes, jet earrings and a gold necklace with a tiger-eye pendant. When she doesn't go disguised as a maidservant she even wears silks and perfume[4].
Her gift is of an reddish colour[6].
