Early life in Carthak
As a teenager, Varice attended the Imperial University of Carthak, studying at the School for Mages. Varice was placed a few levels up, when it was noted she was more powerful than other students her age.
She was already close friends with Prince Ozorne when Numair Salmalín, then known as Arram Draper, started at the school. Upon meeting him, she quickly insisted they become friends. Ozorne, Arram, and Varice took many classes together, becoming quite close. Arram and Varice eventually began a romantic relationship.
In between her studying, Varice made extra money doing seamstress work for her fellow students. When Arram pointed out that her stipend already covered her expenses, she said the money was set aside for the future, when she'd be working on her mastery.
The Tortallan Peace Delegation
When Numair returned to Carthak as a part of the Tortallan delegation to the peace negotiations, it seemed as though her feelings didn't change much over the years as she still flirted with him. When Numair was supposedly executed by the Emperor, Daine accused Varice of betraying Numair, but she denied it, although she admitted that she might have betrayed Numair if he had confided in her. Still Numair's seeming death caused her grief; she told Daine that she tried begging Ozorne to spare his life, as it sometimes worked, but he still refused.
She usually dressed well and used face paint as well as rich scents. She was a tall, slender blonde with a "richly curved" body.
In contrast to most other mages, Varice didn't want to become famous or do great things with her gift. She preferred doing pretty things with her magic and specialized in elaborate baking.
