Varice Kingsford (pronounced vahr-EESS) was a mage working for Emperor Ozorne to arrange his festivities.
She was also a friend of Numair Salmalín's and they had an romantic relationship before Numair left Carthak, when he was still known under Arram Draper. She, too, studied at the Carthaki University. It seemed as though her feelings toward Numair didn't change much over the years as she still flirted with him when he came to Carthak again accompanying the Tortallan delegation to the peace negotiations. She only appears in Emperor Mage so far. It is unknown what happened to her after her meeting with Daine. She is likely to appear in Pierce's upcoming trilogy about Numair called Exile. She will likely appear in the first installment, The Gift of Power, which as of now is unreleased—the planned year is 2017, but an exact date has not yet been set for the publication.
