The Temple District was—except for the royal palace--the southermost part of Corus and came up just before the palace. It was patrolled by guards of many different faiths. The Temple District held temples for all gods worshipped in the city such as the Great Mother Goddess, Mithros, and the Black God, but probably also minor gods, because there were "countless temples"[1]. This district offered safe passage for anyone passing through.[2] Palace Way lead through the district, coming up from the city and leading to the royal palace. When Alanna passed by the temple or one of the temples of the Great Mother Goddess, and saw the women guards, she thought to herself that she would wear armor and carry weapons, but not merely as a guard.
