Tempests and Slaughter[1], originally titled The Gift of Power for a time, will be the first part of the The Numair Chronicles trilogy by Tamora Pierce. The book is set for release on February 6th, 2018 and is available for preorder. It will feature Numair Salmalín prior to the events of The Immortals quartet while he is still friends with Ozorne Tasikhe in Carthak.

This book will begin with Numair's first years at the Carthaki University when he was still friends with Emperor Ozorne. At that time he was still known under his original name of Arram Draper.
