Oranie "Orie" of Mindelan is one of Keladry's older sisters, five years her senior. She visited the Yamani Isles with her parents, but has since learnt to become a 'proper' Eastern maiden, including losing, or at the very least no long using, her ability to fight with a glaive. Although she and her sister Adalia have told Lady Florzile, a member of the Nond family, that they are not close to Kel on account of her being so much younger, when Doanna of Fenrigh insults Kel and demands another server, the two of them give her looks which 'promised trouble'.
