Nestor Haryse, born in 216 HE[1], is a Sergeant of the Provost's Guard in Port Caynn.
He is a cousin of Gershom of Haryse and they have quite a good relationship although Nestor is ten years younger and his mother was a peasant who was only a mistress. Nestor often visits Gershom of Haryse in Corus, where he also met Rebakah Cooper. As a guardsman he doesn't accept bribes but is still respected by many people involved in illegal business, like Hansevor Remy[2].
So far he only appeared in Bloodhound.
Biography
Nestor is born in 216 HE. His father is a nobleman out of the house of Haryse, his mother a peasant. Nestor joins the Provost's Guard in 235 HE[3], when he is nineteen years old. It can be assumed that he spent the two preceding years in training - one theoretic and one as a Puppy. He visited his cousin Gershom often, probably because both were the only members of the family sharing their dedication to the Provost's Guard. He met Beka on one such visits in 244 HE. Once Beka started training as a Dog Nestor followed her success--pressumably through Lord Gershom--and talked with Okha about her, being clearly proud of Beka "as if [she] were one of his own trainees"[4].
Nestor is very dutiful about his work, being one of the few who still try to keep the order in Port Caynn, his assigned district being South Hills[5], when Pearl Skinner his intimidated or blackmailed most Dogs, even the Deputy Provost, into doing nothing. Nestor has good relationships in all parts of Port Caynn, even the less law-abiding ones. He has been offered promotion but didn't take it because he wanted to stay a street Dog[6].
Nestor is homosexual, his lover is Okha Soyan.
Physical description
He is five foot nine inches (5'9") of height, stocky built and muscled with quite big hands. Nestor's curly hair is brown with a gold shine and his short beard is a little darker. His nose is long and has been broken in two places. His dark eyes are blue-gray. Nestor's voice is like dark, warm smoke.[3] His appearance makes Nestor popular with women.
