Mithros is the male ruler of the gods. The Great Mother Goddess is his sister and co-ruler. Mithros is a god of sun, light, and fire, but law, war, and magic are also areas under his influence.
Appearance
Mithros takes the appearance of a black man in gold armor, holding a spear with a white-hot tip.
Worship
Temples dedicated to Mithros can be found throughout the Eastern Lands. He is also worshiped in Carthak, and his temple in Carthak City is said to be quite beautiful. Two common features of Mithros's temples are polished sun-disks and candles, torches, or lamps to represent light. Mithran priests wear orange robes. The Mithran cloisters at the City of the Gods train mages. Advanced studies include theology as well as magic- students become either priests of Mithros or priest-mages. A Mithran black and gold robe indicates mastery. Mithros's clergy is exclusively male. Not only is he worshiped in Carthak, but also in the Copper Isles, brought over by Laurin, or white, noble who took over the isles in the 100 H.E. (human era). He and his sister the Great Mother Goddess, helped the Laurin to take over the Raka, or native people's islands, by banishing their brother Kyprioth, the islands' patron God, to the ocean around it.
Rituals
Marriages before Mithros involve the couple lighting a fire together and exchanging necklaces of marigolds. A priest of Mithros, along with a priestess of the Goddess, preforms royal marriages in Tortall.
On Midwinter, mummers may dress as animals and ask Mithros to bring back the sun.
Influences
Mithros's name comes from the ancient Persian god Mithras.
