Maren (pronounced MAHR-enn) is a kingdom in the Eastern Lands. It borders Tusaine and Tyra to the west, Galla to the north, and Sarain to the east. The Great Inland Sea forms its southern coastline. Culturally, Maren is similar to Tortall and the other Eastern Lands.[1]
King Norrin and Queen Anj'la were co-rulers of Maren during the third century HE. The good they did, ruling with the help of the Dominion Jewel, shows in the continuing prosperity of the kingdom.[1]
During the Saren civil war of 439 HE[2], Maren took in many refugees from Sarain and gave them farmland in the southern part of the kingdom.[3]
Berat is one of Maren's cities.[1] The Shappa river forms its eastern border, along which sits the walled city of Fortress Jiroken.[3]
