Lindhall Reed (pronounced LIND-hall) is a mage of unknown origin[2] who teaches the pages botany and zoology at the Tortallan Royal Palace. He formerly lived in Carthak and taught at the prestigious university there.

Biography

Early life

Lindhall was born and raised in the north, although the exact country of origin is unknown.

Education

As a mage, Lindhall likely studied at the Carthaki University and received his credentials there. This is even more likely because he taught at the school.

Living in Carthak

Lindhall was hired on at the Carthki University and highly paid by the emperor in order to oversee the menageries at the school and palace.

Lindhall taught Numair Salmalín and Ozorne Tasikhe when they were still studying at the university. He became close friends with Numair and presumably helped him escape when Ozorne became emperor and declared Numair a traitor. Later, Lindhall was one of the primary teachers of Prince Kaddar, Emperor Ozorne's heir.

He stayed in Carthak for many years, but it was mostly because he was helping slaves to escape. As an instructor, he had his own office and suite of rooms where he had an aviary full of birds from his homeland.

The delegation

Before the arrival of the Tortallan delegation, Numair sent a simulacrum of himself for Lindhall to look after. Numair assumed that Ozorne would try and start something, and he wanted to be sure to have a way out. Lindhall kept it hidden in his rooms.

Emperor Ozorne trusted Lindhall in his aviary with his precious birds. Lindhall accompanied Veralidaine Sarrasri when she first went to heal them with the emperor's permission. He insisted on coming with her for two reasons; that he wished to see her at work and because he knew that Numair would feel better if he stayed with her[3].

Daine and Lindhall became very good friends during the delegation's stay, and he showed her quite a few animals that he knew she would like. He also showed her the dinosaur skeletons, which awed her[4].

After Emperor Ozorne's defeat and the succession of Prince Kaddar, Lindhall decided to leave Carthak, much to Kaddar's dismay. Lindhall never wanted to see another slave again, and was thus going to Tortall.
