Kara was a Bazhir of the Bloody Hawk tribe in the Great Southern Desert.
Biography
Early life
When it became known that she possessed the magical Gift, Akhnan ibn Nazzir, the tribe's shaman at the time, made her an outcast and pariah, along with Ishak and Kourrem—the other Bloody Hawk children who possessed the Gift[2].
Alanna's arrival
The capture of a woman who rode like a man and could use magic shocked many members of the tribe. Kara, Kourrem, and Ishak were instructed to serve the new arrival, although Akhnan ibn Nazzir claimed they would be further corrupted[2].
Once Alanna defeated Nazzir in a magical duel, she became the new shaman. As such, she was charged with teaching a new shaman, and thus she became the instructor of Ishak, Kara, and Kourrem. Alanna helped Kara and Kourrem find strength and confidence where they previously had none. Once Ishak died, Kara and Kourrem were put forth as possible co-shamans of the tribe. This would give them far more political power than what a woman in the Bazhir could usually claim.
Ordeal of Shamans
Leading up to their Ordeal, Kara and Kourrem practiced magic with Alanna and other magic users from other Bazhir tribes[3]. Umar Komm told Alanna that she should not worry so much about them. He even offered to watch over them after Mahman Fadul, a young man of his tribe, took over the shaman's duties for him[3].
Even before their Ordeal, Alanna petitioned Halef Seif to allow her apprentices to be witness for her adoption, knowing that they should be used to being called for such matters in the future as head shamans. The tribe was uneasy, but Seif saw that it would be the right way to do things[3].
They later passed their Ordeal, taking up the mantle of head shaman and relieving Alanna of her former duties[3].
Marriage and motherhood
Kara eventually married the headman of the Bloody Hawk, Halef Seif, and cared for her family as well as taught magic[1].
Physical description
She has a darker skin tone and is taller than Kourrem[2].
