The Rokat family was known for its corrupt pratices and what it did to its rivals. When Jamar was twenty, he lived in Janaal. He courted a girl of great beauty and fortune. When the men of her family started to consider the advances of another man, one who offered more coin, Jamar entered their house and strangled the girl's father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In 1039 KF, when the Duke was riding in Summersea with his great-niece Sandrilene fa Toren, Jamar Rokat came out of his home to greet them, expressing joy that the Duke was well again after his near fatal heart attack. He also wanted to ensure that his family could continue their trade in Summersea, and that they would not lose favor with the Duke.
Jamar is described as fat by Sandry. He wore very expensive clothing and many jewels and gemstones.
Personality & traits
Jamar is not innocent of the cruelty that his family is known for. Because of their deeds, Jamar has been forced to use heavy protection, including bodyguards with well-made and well-used weapons, and a myriad of protective magics in his home. He is paranoid and greedy, and is twitchy and nervous out in the open where he might be attacked.
He is quite a smooth talker, however, and tries to use this method to gain favor with the Duke. The Duke sees through him.
Jamar died at the beginning of Magic Steps, which was the only novel where he appeared.
