Master Hulak was a Jindazhen mage who specialized in plants, medicines, and poison magic.[1] He taught at the Imperial University of Carthak's School for Mages. He was one of Arram Draper's instructors when the boy was in the Upper Academy. Hulak preferred not to go by the "Master" title.

Biography

Pre-Carthak

The University paid a large amount in order to convince to Hulak to leave the Mohon tribes north of Jindazhen. Master Lindhall Reed convinced him to take the offer by telling him about all of the plants and trees in the East that Hulak had never seen.[2]

Teaching

Hulak taught plant magic to Arram Draper. He first met Arram when the boy accidentally shattered some jars, thinking he could run through the garden while it was empty for the winter. Hulak decided to teach Arram plant magic because the boy didn't understand that gardens are alive, and there's work to be done, even if it appears dead for the winter. He also said the lessons were the price Arram had to pay for breaking his jars.[1]

Physical Description

Hulak was stocky and bog-legged, with ruddy golden-brown skin, short black hair streaked with gray, and dark eyes. His often wore clothing practical for gardening.
