The Great Market Riot occurred in spring of 439 HE in Corus, Tortall after the deaths of King Roald V and Queen Lianne. There was general unrest among the Tortallan people, who believed that their new king-to-be, Jonathan, was cursed. Ralon of Malven, who at that time was known as "Claw", sent assassins during a procession to kill Jonathan.

At the end of the riot, there were fifteen dead, thirty-six injured (including Jon), and damage to shops and buildings[1].
