Genore Tomang (pronounced JEHN-ohr TOE-mahng) was a luarin noblewoman of the Copper Isles. She had one child, Count Ferdolin Tomang, who became Count at the death of her husband. She was also known as The Dowager Countess Tomang, according to custom, although referred to as Countess Tomang. She died in 463 HE during the raka rebellion while defending Balitang House in Rajmuat.

Biography

Early life

Genore married the previous Count Tomang and had at least two children with him, Ferdolin and Rosamma. Ferdy was born around the same time as Saraiyu Balitang, the daughter of Mequen Balitang and Sarugani Temaida. Since Ferdy held the title of Count before 463 HE, her husband would have died sometime before then although it is unknown exactly when.

The exile of the Balitangs

Prior to the exile of the Balitang family by King Oron, Ferdy and Sarai engaged in serious flirtations. As Genore did not approve of her son's interest in a half-raka girl, she did everything but send Ferdy to work in the field to separate the two of them. It probably came as a relief to hear of their exile to Tanair on Lombyn Island.

The return of the Balitangs

When Sarai and her family returned, Genore noticed that her son was still just as interested in the beautiful young woman. She was unhappy at first, but Nuritin Balitang convinced her that the connection would be beneficial because Sarai was the heir's sister. Genore conceded, and allowed the flirtations to continue.

When Sarai eloped with Zaimid Hetnim, Genore was furious as she believed Sarai to have led her son on and made a fool out of him. This caused for some awkwardness between Duchess Winnamine, Lady Nuritin, and herself.

Because of the trouble in the Isles, the prince and princess regents had to impose more taxes on those who could afford them and would pay, such as the wealthy luarin nobility. As the Tomang family was one of the wealthiest families of the Isles, besides Duke Nomru's family, they were heavily taxed for a third year in a row. Countess Tomang and her son joined the luarin conspiracy, or what Aly described as a "complaint society", rather than a group that got anything done. Later, the groups joined forces and Countess Tomang was forced to face the reality that Dovasary Balitang would be Queen if the conspiracy got their way. She came around though.

She became affiliated with the raka conspiracy and Dovasary Balitang as their twice-royal queen candidate. Genore fought during the battle and protected Balitang House from Crown invaders. She died in the fighting.

Personality and traits

Genore was a member of the luarin nobility, and was no different from others in how she viewed the raka. This is especially seen in how she treated the budding relationship between her son and Sarai, a young woman who is half-raka. Genore is immensely imposing and arrogant, but will see reason.

Appearances

She only appeared in Trickster's Queen.
