Faziy aHadi was a Carthaki mage and scholar who lived during the 5th century HE. She taught advanced charms at the Imperial University's School for Mages.[1] Faziy had power over lightning. She was an adept, and wore a yellow robe, and did not wear a red robe because she was not a master.[2]

Biography

Education

Faziy was educated at the Imperial University. She finished everything she needed for mastery but had to go on leave for a time before she could completely finish. They decided that she could teach charms to students while she finished up her mastery.[2]

Teaching Arram

Faziy began teaching Arram Draper advanced charms in early 438 HE at the start of the Spring Term. She was excited to meet Preet, Arram's baby sunbird that was masquerading as a blackbird in order to avoid detection. Faziy knew a number of birdcalls, but Preet did not respond to the blackbird ones.[2] She clashed with Master Chioké on the topic of lightning snakes, which she had worked with extensively and which he doubted the existence of.

Midway through Arram Draper's education with her, Faziy left in order to inspect and price charms for the market at Inlands Trading House. They offered to pay her far more than the university. Faziy told Arram to feel happy for her as that meant she would be able to bring the rest of her family to Carthak.[3]

Faziy's Death

Faziy was murdered and dropped into the River Zekoi in order to cover it up. Master Sebo warned Arram to keep his knowledge of Faziy's death quiet, as whoever killed her would like do the same to anyone who knew about her death. The circumstances of her death made it seem like Faziy had abandoned her obligations and had run off without second thought, which Arram knew directly contrasted with her wishes to bring her family closer to her.[4]

Master Cosmas speculated that Master Chioké was quite capable of sinking the ships in the storm that killed Prince Stiloit and framing Faziy for it due to her skill with lightning magic.[5]

Physical description

Faziy is described to be 5 ft 10 inches when first meeting Arram in 438 HE. She was strong-bodied and muscular with bronze-brown skin. She had a short, broad nose, dimples, and sparkling black eyes.[2]

Name

"Faziy" is an old name from western Carthak.[1] It is close to "Fazia", and they likely come from the same root and are variations.
