Elyot of Aspen Vale was a Tortallan nobleman. He was the younger brother of Graeme, the baron of Aspen Vale.

Biography

Education

Master Elyot was a powerful mage who trained at the Carthaki University. He is an orange robe, their second-highest ranking, which means he must be just short of a black robe[1]. Even though he trained in Carthak, Master Elyot is still the pride of the City of the Gods, according to Farmer Cape,[2] which suggests he likely received further credentials from the famed City.

Conspiracy

Elyot aided Prince Baird in his treacherous plot against King Roger III. Dolsa Silkweb was another mage who helped their cause. He and his brother accompanied Prince Baird to Fief Queensgrace when it was clear members of the Provost's Guard had started to sniff out the culprits. He was responsible for Linnet Beck's death and watched as she was strangled to death after she helped Rebakah Cooper discover an unnamed slave of around Prince Gareth's age[3].

He was angered when Dolsa Silkweb succeeded in capturing the Provost Dogs who were on the Hunt, and it rankled him that she was able to accomplish what he could not. He joined his fellow conspirators at Fief Halleburn, where Prince Gareth was being kept.

Farmer Cape distracted the conspirators while Beka, Sabine of Macayhill, and Nomalla of Halleburn escaped with Prince Gareth and Daeggan, another young slave. Elyot had to fight Farmer with magic, but lost, as the other man's unconventional education had taught him to be resourceful and to look beyond simple accreditation and mage snobbery. Farmer locked Elyot in a substance like glass, and tore the main hall of Halleburn apart to create his distraction[4].

Physical description

He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a thin nose—traits he shares with his older brother. His chin was a slight cleft, and his mouth was slightly thinner than his older brother's. He wore a fire opal on a gold chain, and a bloodstone set in gold on his finger[1].

Personality and traits

He was arrogant, showy, and liked inflicting pain on those whom he thought were beneath him. He wore large jewels of incredible magical value to show off his power. Pounce said he didn't think much of human mages who did that, and shared that feeling with his fellow Hunters. Rebakah Cooper also surmised that he was not directly responsible for Linnet's death, as powerful mages like to keep their magic untainted by death unless killing is necessary. She assumed he likely watched and gained enjoyment as Linnet was brutally murdered.[3]
