The Drink was a method for interrogating prisoners by the Provost's Guard in the third century of the Human Era. It was a way of drowning people on dry land. For it water was poured into the victim's mouth without halt, making him or her swallow by holding his or her nose. Because the victim often tried to breathe the water would get into his or her lungs, thus drowning him or her.
Durant Elkes was once subjected to the Drink when he was arrested and questioned for suspected counterfeiting. At that occassion he got the Drink three times and still denied any knowledge of passing false coins, because he really didn't know of it and the false coins in his possession came from Pearl Skinner. Rebakah Cooper had also once subjected to a mild form of the Drink during her training, which still caused her nightmares years later.
