Blayce the Gallan (pronounced BLAYSS), real name Blayce Younger,[1] was a powerful mage. Kel also referred to him as The Nothing Man because his appearance was not imposing, and he wreaked so much havoc. She first saw him in a vision in the Chamber of the Ordeal during her Ordeal of Knighthood. He is primarily a necromancer, which he achieves through infanticide.

Biography[]

Early Life and Education[]

Blayce Younger was born in Galla to well-off farmers at some point in the 5th century HE, as his exact age is unknown. He was judged to be a pretty powerful mage, so he was sent to the City of the Gods to learn magic and receive his credentials. During his time there, however, he developed an "aptitude" for enslaving the spirits of the dead to do his will. Judged to be necromancy, he was immediately expelled and cast out from the school in 454 HE.[1]

Scanran War[]

He pledged his allegiance to Maggur Rathhausak, saying he had plans for a weapon that would put the Scanrans to an advantage. King Maggur gave him his old fief, Castle Rathhausak, for Blayce's use. Blayce first started killing children around the castle in the nearby village. He started with the prettiest children, and then moved on to those who were uglier or with mental illnesses, turning them into killing devices for the Scanran war effort. He killed one of Zerhalm's children, and very few villagers kept their children safe, especially since Stenmun Fodeben was working for Blayce at this point.

Stenmun was charged with supplying Blayce with new children so he could create more devices. Blayce was eventually killed by Keladry of Mindelan in late June of 460 HE.

Physical Description[]

Blayce is about five feet tall and has a long nose and a narrow mouth. His small eyes blink rapidly and his hair is of a dull brown color. His clothes and hair are unkempt.[2]
