Adalia of Nond, born Adalia "Adie" of Mindelan (pronounced ah-dah-LEE-ah of MIHN-duh-lahn) in 435 HE,[1] was a Tortallan noblewoman. She was a member of the Mindelan family, and married into the Nond family when she was in her late teens.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Adie accompanied her parents and a few of her siblings to the Yamani Islands when she was still quite young. She presumably learned the naginata, a glaive-like weapon, along with her mother Ilane, and her sisters.

Return from the Islands[]

When the family returned from the Yamani Islands, Adie and her sister Oranie of Mindelan chose to continue their training to become proper noble maidens, as opposed to their youngest sister Keladry. She was incredibly close with her younger sister Oranie, as they were only two years apart, and were both interested in continuing on the same path.

Betrothal and marriage[]

While their sister was a page, the Nond family expressed interest in Adalia. Florzile of Nond was incredibly conservative, and did not approve of Kel trying for her knighthood, but she assured Adalia that she knew the young woman was a proper maiden. Adie and Oranie also told Lady Florzile that they were not close to Kel, on account of her being the youngest sibling. Florzile was interested in Adalia to marry Merovec of Nond.

Both Adalia and Oranie attended the Midwinter banquets at the palace as guests, while Kel waited tables as a page. She and her sister were seated at a table of young maidens their age, which included Uline of Hannalof, and Doanna of Fenrigh. Doanna insulted Kel and by extension her family while Kel was serving them, and requested another server. Adalia and Oranie clearly were going to get vengeance, and Kel was briefly sorry for Doanna, as both girls were very inventive.

Adalia hired Lalasa Isran, Kel's maid, to sew her a gown for a few balls. Tianine Plowman was Adalia's maid.[2]

Adalia married Merovec of Nond in the late 450s or early 460s of the Human Era and they had two children.[3] Adalia helped choose her husband.

Physical description[]

"It was Kel's seventeen-year-old sister Adalia, elegant in a gown of leaf green and a gold brocade surcoat with green silk trim. Like many other court ladies, she wore her hair in the pinned-up tumble of curls made fashionable by Queen Thayet. The barest touches of lip color and powder, another royal fashion, warmed her pale skin. [...] Her face was Yamani-calm, though her movements were not."
